APPLICATIONS DUE AUGUST 23 @ 11:59PM 〰️
Goal:
To foster greater collaboration between academic researchers in the geosciences and health sciences in order to accelerate the pace of science at the intersection of climate change and human health.
To promote the formation of new collaborative teams with expertise spanning the geo and health sciences and position them to better compete for future research funding from NSF or other sources.
Eligibility:
-
Researchers with appointments or employment at US institutions of higher learning. For this program, we are not able to support individuals not presently residing in and working in the US or those not appointed at a college or university.
-
Applicants must have disciplinary expertise in either geosciences (including earth sciences, environmental sciences, planetary sciences, atmospheric sciences, engineering, etc) or health sciences (including public health, environmental health, epidemiology, toxicology, biostatistics, medicine, community health sciences, etc).
-
Applicants can be at any of the following career stages: post-doctoral scholars/researchers, faculty members of any rank, and research scientists. Preference will be given to early and mid-career scientists, but scientists at any level are invited to apply.
-
We seek applicants that can commit to attending two in-person conferences in the next 12 months, one in their own field and one in the “other” domain.
Health science researchers should commit to attending one of the following geoscience meetings: annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU, Washington DC December 9-13, 2024) OR American Meteorological Society (AMS, New Orleans, LA January 12-16)
Geoscientists should commit to attending of the following meetings focused on health: annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA, Minneappolis, MN October 27-30) or International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE, Atlanta GA, expected to be held August 2025, but dates will be posted when announced)
-
GeoCAFÉ will provide funding (typically up to $2500) for cohort members to attend the other meeting in person. Applicants are expected to use existing funding to attend one of the above meetings with GeoCAFÉ contributing to the costs of the second meeting. Under extenuating circumstances, funding to support attendance of both meetings might be possible. We hope that Cohort members will also participate in a meeting within their own discipline. Applicants must be able to document existing funding and intent to attend one of the above meetings.
