Common Places to Find Climate & Health Data
CDC
Climate Change Data (CDC): Datasets to better understand how climate changes can influence human health.
CDC Wonder (CDC): Provides access to a wide array of public health information.
National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network Data Explorer (CDC): Tracking Network has data and information on environments and hazards, health effects, and population health.
EIA
Energy Emissions Data & Environmental Analysis of Energy Data (EIA): Energy-related emissions data and environmental analysis, voluntary reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, annual forecasts.
EPA
Climate Change Indicators in the United States (EPA): Providing evidence of changes and their impacts on people and the environment from EPA partners including dozens of data contributors.
IPCC
Data Distribution Centre (IPCC): Climate, socio-economic and environmental data and scenarios used in the reports and key figures produced by the IPCC.
Emission Factor Database (IPCC): Users can find emission factors and other parameters with background documentation or technical references that can be used for estimating greenhouse gas emissions and removals.
NCAR
Climate Data Guide (NCAR): The Guide publishes data summaries with access links, intercomparisons, and expert commentaries on the utility of climate data for addressing a wide variety of questions in climate science.
NOAA
Climate.gov (NOAA): Climate literacy, data snapshots, 10+ indicators tracked over time, regular updates and posts, and more.
Climate Monitoring, Climate at a Glance (NOAA): The tool provides near real-time analysis of monthly and annual temperatures for the globe and is intended for the study of climate variability and change. Data is provided globally, by hemisphere, and by land and ocean surface components.
Climatological Data (NOAA): Monthly editions contain station daily maximum and minimum temperatures and precipitation. Some stations provide daily snowfall, snow depth, evaporation, and soil temperature data. Each issue also contains monthly summaries for heating and cooling degree days (65 degrees Fbase).
Climatological Data National Summary (NOAA): Data includes a national general summary of weather conditions, observed extremes of temperatures & precipitation by states, climatological data by station, heating degree/cooling degree days, flood data and losses, and storm summaries. Upper air data, sunshine and solar radiation data are also summarized.
COOP Data / Record of Climatological Observations Form (NOAA): Monthly log that includes a daily account of temperature extremes (participating locations) & precipitation, along with snow data at some locations.
Drought information (NOAA): National Weather Service's Climate Predication Center U.S. drought information page.
Hourly Precipitation Data (NOAA): Contains hourly precipitation amounts obtained from recording rain gages located at National Weather Service, Federal Aviation Administration, and cooperative observer stations. Published data are displayed in inches to tenths or inches to hundredths at local standard time. HPD includes maximum precipitation for nine (9) time periods from 15 minutes to 24 hours, for selected stations.
Local Climatological Data (NOAA): Contains summaries from major airport weather stations that include a daily account of temperature extremes, degree days, precipitation amounts and winds. Also included are the hourly precipitation amounts and abbreviated 3-hourly weather observations.
Monthly Climatic Data for the World (NOAA): Contains monthly mean temperature, pressure, precipitation, vapor pressure, and hours of sunshine for approximately 2,000 surface data collection stations worldwide and monthly mean upper air temperatures, dew point depressions, and wind velocities for approximately 500 observing sites.
Storm Data (NOAA): Contains a chronological listing, by states, of storm occurrences and unusual weather phenomena. Reports contain information on storm paths, deaths, injuries, and property damage. An "Outstanding storms of the month" section highlights severe weather events with photographs, illustrations, and narratives.
OECD
Environment Data (OECD): Data topics: Air and climate, Forests, Water, and Waste.
World Bank
Climate Change Knowledge Portal (World Bank): Search by country to find historical rainfall and temperature data and projections for the future. Comparison charts, risk and adaptation profiles, mapping and download options are included.
WHO
Global Health Observatory (WHO)
Other Projects
CDP Open Data: Carbon Disclosure Project. Data reported by more than 1,200 city and regional governments worldwide.
DataRefuge: Data Refuge is a public project headed by the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities and the Penn Libraries committed to identifying, assessing, prioritizing, securing, and distributing reliable copies of federal climate and environmental data.
Native Waters on Arid Lands Climate Projections: Climate data and projections for temperature, precipitation, and other metrics for multiple reservations in the Great Basin and Southwestern US.
World Resources Institute Resource Watch: Hundreds of data sets and visualizations on the state of the planet’s resources and citizens.
University Maine Climate Change Institute Climate Reanalyzer: Visualizing an array of climate and weather information sets.
Yale Program on Climate Change Communication: We conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them.
